Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) hopes to step up member registration after the party opened its secretariat in Yambio, Western Equatoria State.
Governor Alred Futuyo, who is the party’s state chairman, hoisted the party flag as women and youth showcased their traditional dances.
Also in attendance was Regina Joseph, the party’s secretary-general. Thousands of SPLM-IO supporters, especially women and young people, attended the ceremony.
The ceremony in Yambio comes after a string of similar events where SPLM-IO rolled out membership registrations in Jonglei State, Central Equatoria, and other parts of the country.
The new office will be the state party headquarters.
Speaking at the ceremony, Regina said opening the office in the state is a step in the right direction to expand the base of the party.
She pleaded with the people to show up for registration and establish a powerful party in the state.
She said the party would begin membership registration immediately.
