Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Preparations for the grand endorsement for President Salva Kiir in Equatoria region is gaining momentum with the rally contemporarily slated for end month.

The spokesperson of the government of Central Equatoria State, Derick Derickson, said the area governor, Emmanuel Adil, would involve the state party members to ensure preparations are done for the end of August event.

“I shall let you know later today, but it is before thirtieth in think,” Derrick told this reporter in a telephone interview.

Adil mobilised SPLM cadres from the five payams of Yei-River County in Yei Town for the endorsement of President Kiir as the flagbearer of the party. Aggrey Cyrus Kanyikwa, the interim Chairperson of Yei River County, also promised that he would do all he can to ensure maximum attendance.

The state governor stressed the need for unity of the cadres to mobilise members ahead of the rally within August.

In late July, the chairperson of SPLM Women League in Central Equatoria State, Joy Raphael, stated that the party was waiting for the budget of Central Equatoria State to be combined with the budgets from Western Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria for the date to be communicated.

“Our chairperson briefed us this week, and preparation is going on. We came down on Tuesday; we said that we need to have the budget that is going to cater for the occasion,” she stated.

“The day is not yet known, but they have agreed… the chairperson of the party at the national level, President Salva Kiir, has agreed that the event will take place in Juba.”

Joy added the party would bring the party members from Bomas in the three states to the capital for the endorsement of President Kiir, adding that Central Equatoria had already been chosen as the venue because of enough space for the rally and adequate accommodation.

“The importance of this event is that we are following the right procedure in our constitution. And the importance is also that the people will endorse our flag bearer who is none other than our president,” she said.

This endorsement rally will be the second of its kind after another in Bahr el Ghazal region early last month and then will be followed closely by endorsement in Upper Nile region as well.
