Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The restoration of the Azande Kingdom attracted political endorsements, with the government claiming credit for its rebirth after a century of no activities.
The Vice President for Economic Cluster, James Wani Igga—who is also the SPLM’s first deputy chairman—said the Azande Kingdom’s restoration was an SPLM achievement.
“The restoration of the Azande Kingdom after 117 years is the accomplishment of the SPLM under President Salva Kiir,” Igga said.
He was speaking in Yambio during the celebration of the First Anniversary of the Azande Kingdom.
The kingship is considered a source of heritage to most Azande speakers from Western Equatoria State.
Besides Igga, Western Equatoria governor, Alfred Futuyo, had also claimed that the restoration and the reinstallation of the new Azande Kingdom were some of his achievements as the state boss.
Dr. Igga also directed the state governor and deputy governor to work jointly with King Atoroba Peni to ensure peace and stability return to the state.
“Build a strong spirit of cooperation so that the citizens of WES can enjoy the implementation of the revitalised peace agreement on the resolution of the conflict in South Sudan,” Igga stated.
The Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria, Sarah Nene, called on the citizens to promote the culture of peace.
She expressed the need to respect the diversity of cultures around the state in order to ensure that peace prevails among the people.
