Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A battalion of the South Sudan Peoples Defence Forces (SSPDF) engaged in peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have been encouraged to learn from their regional colleagues as they try to fulfil their mandate.

In his recent address, commander of the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF), Maj-Gen Alphaxard Muthuri , stated that learning from one another was critical to accomplishing the goal.

“The role you play here is very critical in the overall peace and stability effects in this region and I instructed you to continue working closely towards achieving the EACRF mandate,” Maj. Gen. Kiugu quoted.

The EACFR commander made the comment while speaking to the international troops at the camp.

The troops are made up of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Armed Forces (FARDC), the Kenyan Defense Force (KDF), and the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF).

Muthuri directed the forces to continue working together and, more significantly, to share best practices in many facets of peacekeeping operations.

He reaffirmed that the force headquarters is prepared to assist them in completing the assigned duty.

There are more than 300 SSPDF officers taking part in the peacekeeping mission in the eastern part of the DRC.

The regional forces ventured into the mission after being cleared by the heads of state to restore peace in the parts which were under the March 23 rebel forces.
