Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Starford International University College (SIUC) graduated more than 600 students during the university’s 5th Graduation Convocation at its main campus in Juba on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
The event award degrees and diplomas to a total of 636 students including 200 female and 436 male graduates drawn from various academic disciplines. That is double the number of students graduated in its 4 convocation in 2023.
Hundreds of family members, friends, and dignitaries witnessed the graduation ceremony, which featured cultural performances and speeches encouraging the graduates to serve the country with purpose and integrity.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Dr. James Osuru Mark urged the graduates to shift their focus from seeking employment to creating opportunities for others.
On his part, the university’s Board Chairman Dium Cyer Cyer Deng described education as the backbone of sustainable development.
“Don’t be lazy, don’t ignore, read and concentrate such that you create jobs, go for masters degree, go for PHD, read alone and continue such initiative,” he said.
Mr. Cyer emphasized the role of higher learning in fostering national self-reliance and equipping young people to drive progress.
Established in 2015, Starford International University has rapidly emerged as one of South Sudan’s growing centers of academic excellence.
In September 2023, SIUC won the championship of the 5th South Sudan International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition – an annual event hosted by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The competition aims to promote interest in the international humanitarian law, spread awareness of the law in South Sudan and develop advocacy skills among law students.
