Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Cultural dancers added life to World Blood Donor Day celebrations at Torit Freedom Square in Torit town, as Eastern Equatoria State joined the world in marking the important date.

Students from various schools, the South Sudan Red Cross officials and volunteers together with government officials on Tuesday took part in raising awareness of the importance of blood donation, which is the very reason why the day is marked worldwide.

Torit State Civil Hospital Blood Bank Manager, Wilson Udero Ukunyu, hailed the blood donors for making a successful plan for donation that support venerable people in the hospital.

“The maternity wing specifically is a heavy consumer of blood because of some complications that come with childbirth and thus necessitate a blood transfusion. This is followed by the Patriotic Ward which admits people with different complications some of which may need blood,” he said.

One of the regular blood donors in Eastern Equatoria State, Kilama Martin called upon the youthful populations, particularly the students to be regular contributors of blood which is a life saver.

State Health Minister Lodae Pasqualino also made the same rallying call to the population to always make blood donation a habit, not an exercise confined only to the world blood donor day.

“We have to donate blood to save lives. If we don’t donate blood, then we will bury more of our kinsmen because there will be no blood in the blood bank,” he said.
