Trinity Energy starts rehabilitating Wau power plant

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Trinity Energy Limited has started upgrading and rehabilitating the Wau power plant in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

The rehabilitation project on the 5-6 megawatts power plant started two years ago and is expected to be completed next year.

However, COVID-19-related disruptions left transmission materials destroyed.

The plant is intended to generate electricity power to more than 20,000 households in the state capital.

Mr. Robert Mdeza, the Chief Executive Officer of Trinity Energy says the company’s engineers are in Egypt to buy transmission and distribution materials.

“We are currently rehabilitating the power plant we started two years ago and I think due to the issues of convid-19 materials for transmission were destroyed,’ said Mdeza.

The 3.8 megawatt plant in Wau town, has been dysfunctional since it was constructed in 2011, due to failure to supply fuel for keeping the generators running.

The energy official said their current priority is to light up Wau town with battery-powered solar panels.

“So now what we are doing is to cover Wau itself so the output will be around 5-6 MW, but our extension plan is to now deploy green energy in the sense that we want to deploy solar power which is supported by batteries to store the power we have during the day.”

“So now when we see that expansion our aim is to take the power to the nearby towns that are near to Wau so those ones will be powered.”

Last week during the Chamber Quality Awards 2022, Trinity energy was handed 3 awards for outstanding performance on Employer of the Year, Lifetime Business Award, and Petroleum Company of the Year.
