Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Turkish Embassy in South Sudan has hinted at a possible plan to build an international school that will provide impetus to what the government and non-state actors are doing to provide the essential service.
Ambassador Erdem Mutaf said his office has already signed two agreements to that effect.
“This international school will accommodate 400 to 500 male and female students from South Sudan. The school will have all stages of public education, starting from kindergarten, basic, secondary,” said Muraf.
He spoke during the flagging off of 15 South Sudanese students to Turkey who earned education scholarships to various universities and colleges in Turkey.
Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Gabriel Changson welcomed the idea, saying this will help the government bridge the gaps in the education sector in the country.
According to a Humanitarian Aid Trust 2021 report, 70 per cent of South Sudan’s children are out of school and 63 per cent of teachers are without formal training.
“I add my voice to those officials who are rushing now to provide a plot of land for the construction of the international school as soon as possible. This is very important because the students who will study in this school are the sons and daughters of South Sudan who will benefit from this great service,” said Changson.
