Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A court in Juba has sent to jail Businessman Ayii Duang for failing to pay 800, 000 US dollars in reparation of victims of the 2021 Pieri plane crash in Uror County, Jonglei State.
In March 2021, a commercial plane registered as HK 4274, and owned by businessman Ayii Duang Ayii killed at least 10 people after it crashed in the Pieri airstrip, in Uror County.
Those who died include two children, six women, and two pilots – a South Sudanese and a Kenyan.
After months of trials, the court in February this year reached its final decision on the case and ordered South Supreme Airlines to pay compensation of 170,000 US dollars for each victim of the 2021 plane crash in Jonglei State.
It found that the carrier, South Supreme after the crash, failed to transport the bodies of the victims to their destination which is Juba city.
The court also dropped the families’ demands for sums of money lost during the plane crash due to a lack of evidence.
In an order addressed to the Administration of Juba Main Prison dated 31st of August, obtained by Eye Radio, the Malakia court authorized the Prison to ensure Ayii Duang remains incarcerated until he clears the dues.
“Since the subject has a case before this court, he failed to pay the need which is 800,000 US and the court fee, therefore he is to remain in prison until he pays,” read the order signed by Judge James Ladu Jada.

When contacted, the complainants’ lawyer, Advocate Monyluak Alor Kuol confirmed to Eye Radio the business tycoon man is in jail.
“Yes, he was arrested and he will remain in jail until he pays the amount of compensation ordered by the court for the victim of the airplane crash,
“We tried to implement the court order by asking them to pay but they refused and we requested the court to arrest the director of the company until they paid,
“If he fails, we going to court on 14 September and we going to request the court to seize his property.
