Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The United States Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael J. Adler, has urged South Sudanese citizens and leaders to make 2026 a defining year for peace, dialogue, and national reconciliation.

Speaking on Thursday, December 25, during a Christmas service at St. Theresa Cathedral in Kator, Juba, Ambassador Adler shared a vision for the coming year centered on ending cycles of violence and fostering national unity.

The U.S. envoy emphasized that stability is the essential prerequisite for South Sudan’s future, noting that development and progress cannot exist without a firm foundation of peace.

“My wish for South Sudan in 2026 is that the South Sudanese people have peace. May the coming year be a year of peace, a year of dialogue, a year of reconciliation,” Ambassador Adler stated.

Reflecting on the enduring bond between the two nations, Adler reminded the congregation that American support for the people of South Sudan predates the country’s independence in 2011.

He reaffirmed that while U.S. engagement remains broad, the primary objective remains the achievement of lasting security.

“Our relationship with the South Sudanese people is decades old. It began long before this country’s independence,” Adler said. “Our support for the South Sudanese people continues, but our priority is that South Sudanese people have peace.”

The Ambassador’s remarks arrive at a critical juncture. Religious leaders and civil society groups continue to push for renewed dialogue as the nation grapples with persistent insecurity, economic hardship, and a fragile political transition.

The Christmas service was a high-profile gathering of the nation’s leadership, attended by President Salva Kiir, senior government officials, clergy, and members of the diplomatic corps.
