Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A high-level United Nations Security Council (UNSC) delegation has arrived in South Sudan’s capital Juba to assess the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, as well as the impact of the United Nations sanctions on the world’s youngest country, according to a statement by South Sudan presidential press unit.
The United Nations delegation was led by the permanent representative of the Republic of Vietnam, Amb. Daung Dinh Quy. In the statement, the presidency said the delegation was in the country “to deepen the relations between the Government of South Sudan and the International community in order to build confidence to progress together towards reforms for the prosperity of South Sudan.”
Other motives behind the visit, the presidency said, was for “dialogue on the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council pass every year in May especially in regards to sanctions on South Sudan, therefore the visiting delegation aims to seek ways on how to have a better understanding for the council to consider on how to elevate, modify and sustain the regime as it is now.”
The visit also is for the UN delegation to “acquaint themselves with the existing working cooperation between the government of South Sudan and the team of United Nations operating in South Sudan, and the progress of their humanitarian activities at the grounds in the areas affected by floods.”
According to the presidency statement, the delegation also came to the country to access impact of sanctions and the arms embargo on the world’s youngest country.
“The delegation also came to seek information on the impacts of sanctions on the development and on the activities of the government of South Sudan and the way forward,” the presidency statement said.
