UNHAS Suspends Flights to Northern Jonglei

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) has officially announced a temporary suspension of all flight operations to and from Northern Jonglei, effective Friday, January 2nd, 2026.

In a formal letter shared with partner organizations on Saturday, January 3rd, UNHAS expressed regret over the disruption, citing “operational limitations” as the primary reason for the grounding of services.

The suspension halts critical transport links to several remote locations in the region, including Akobo, Lankien, Motot, Pieri, Waat, Walgak, and Yuai.

The suspension is expected to impact the delivery of essential supplies and the movement of humanitarian personnel in these areas. UNHAS is a vital lifeline for NGOs and UN agencies operating in Northern Jonglei, where road access is often restricted by insecurity or seasonal weather conditions.

The agency stated that the suspension will remain in place “until further notice.” UNHAS has committed to monitoring the circumstances closely and will communicate the resumption of services as soon as the operational situation improves.
