Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Governor Joseph Nguen Manytuil Wijang of South Sudan’s Unity State has officially enacted a bill amplifying the salaries of members serving in the state’s transitional legislative assembly from SSP85,000 to SSP700,000, as confirmed by a state parliament representative.

Speaking to Sudans Post on Tuesday, chair of information committee at the state parliament Stephen Mawich disclosed that the bill had been passed by the parliament three months ago and received the governor’s signature last week.

Mawich highlighted that the legislation entailed a significant hike of 723.5 percent, adjusting the previous salary of SSP85,000 to the new benchmark of SSP700,000.

“This Emolument Act, now signed into law, is pivotal in bolstering our salaries and providing a structured payment framework for parliamentarians,” he stated.

“The salary increases to SSP700,000 will empower lawmakers to effectively carry out their duties and spearhead developmental initiatives within their respective constituencies and households,” he added.

He expressed appreciation to the governor.

“We express gratitude to Governor Manytuil for endorsing the Emolument Act, which was passed by the parliament last month,” he said.

“This critical legislation ensures a substantial raise, elevating lawmakers’ salaries to SSP700,000 from the former SSP85,000,” he affirmed.
