Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Senate of the University of Juba has given the Ministry of Finance and Planning until April 26, 2023, to pay the newly approved salary structure or activate the industrial action ‘clause’.
The extended senate of the University of Juba is comprised of members of the dean’s board, representatives of the workers’ trade union, and representatives of the women’s association of the University of Juba.
The group met on Wednesday to deliberate on the delayed implementation of the approved new salary structure for public universities.
In a statement released by the Senate, they said failure to comply, the Dean’s board to take any necessary action, including industrial action.
Last week, President Salva Kiir directed the Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Dier Tong Ngor, to immediately clear outstanding salaries for public university lecturers after they threatened to go on strike.
This was revealed in a statement issued on the President’s official Facebook page.
It said the meeting was also attended by the Minister for Higher Education, Gabriel Changson Chang.
“President Kiir has directed the Ministry of Finance to pay February and March salary arrears and allowances to all public universities based on the current salary scale,” Tong said.
All the public universities across the country are currently demanding their salaries for February and March, respectively.
