Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Upper Nile State Governor, Lt. Gen. James Koang Chuol, has suspended Panyikang County Commissioner Hon. Mustafa Gai Luk, effective May 11, 2025.
The official order, seen by Eye Radio, did not give a reason for the suspension.
“I, H.E. Lt. Gen. James Koang Chuol Ranley, Governor of Upper Nile State, do hereby issue this Gubernatorial Order No: 10/2025 for suspension of Hon. Riek Gach Gatluak, Commissioner of Panyikang County, Upper Nile State.”
The Commissioner of Panyikang is among several opposition-affiliated officials suspended in April by Upper Nile State Governor Lt. Gen. Koang, who was appointed as governor of Upper Nile State in March 2025 by President Salva Kiir.
Others suspended include the State Minister of Finance and Planning, Pal Deng Kerweth; Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs, Kech Nyuoth Tiem; Nasir County Commissioner, James Gatluak Lew Thiep; and Ulang County Commissioner, Riek Gach Gatluak.
Earlier this month, President Salva Kiir reshuffled key government positions in Upper Nile State, including changes to the state cabinet, independent commissions, and county commissioners.
