Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Members of the Upper Nile State Legislative Assembly have been urged to return to the state for the second session of the state parliament. The MPs were on recess for three months.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Bangot Kailech Bang, the official spokesman for the Upper Nile State Legislative Assembly, called on MPs currently in Juba to return to Malakal before April 8th, when the assembly will reopen.
“We call on the MPs who are in Juba to come back to Malakal so that they can register their names before the assembly reopens next month. We are now working to ensure that the assembly reopens on time,” said Bangot.
He further said the assembly would discuss several issues, including a new budget for the state and civil servants’ salaries.
The state lawmaker further said that traditionally, the new year’s state budget is discussed after the governor’s speech, which will be divided into three sections: governance, economy, and social services.
Bangot indicated that the assembly’s challenges include a lack of water and electricity supplies, adding that the assembly building needs to be fenced.
Regarding the upcoming general elections, Lawmaker Bangot explained that the election file was not transferred to the state assembly as an agenda and, therefore, was off the state parliament’s plan.
