Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan Vice President Taban Deng Gai arrived in St. Petersburg on Wednesday to participate in the Second Russia-Africa Summit.
The summit, which is being held from July 27-28, is expected to be attended by many African heads of state and government.
Gai is leading a delegation of South Sudanese officials to the summit, including acting foreign minister deng dau malek, Minister of Mining Martin Abocha, and the First Undersecretary in the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Kuol Daniel Ayulo.
The summit is seen as an opportunity for Russia to strengthen its ties with African countries.
Russia is already a major supplier of arms and military equipment to Africa, and the summit is expected to discuss ways to increase cooperation in other areas, such as trade, investment, and agriculture.
Gai said that he is looking forward to the summit and that he hopes to discuss ways to strengthen the relationship between South Sudan and Russia.
“We have a long history of cooperation with Russia, and I am confident that this summit will help to further strengthen our ties,” Gai said told reporters upon arrival at Pulkovo airport.
“We are particularly interested in discussing ways to increase trade and investment between our two countries,” he added.
The Second Russia-Africa Summit is the largest event in Russia-Africa relations since the first summit was held in 2019.
The summit is expected to be a major opportunity for Russia to expand its influence in Africa.
