Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga says morality in South Sudan is worse than the biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, citing a decline in moral and traditional values upheld by forefathers.
According to the Bible, the two legendary cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by God for acts such as sexual assault, murder, theft, adultery, idolatry, and abuse of power.
Dr. Igga, who also chairs the economic cluster, said rampant killings and rising crime within communities, mainly involving the youth, reflect a deep moral crisis in the country.
“There is definitely lot of evil happening in our country like elsewhere in the continent. Just to site a few examples, we have in our country the niggas, the Torontos, the community rampant killings and so on and so forth, this is happening,” he lamented.
Speaking at the State House during the national prayer breakfast on Saturday, he said the level of evil currently taking place in South Sudan requires collective responsibility and joint action to address.
“Morality and traditional values which our fathers and grandfathers used to have became past, worse than Sodom and Gomora. We are in religious gathering; we all recall these places. We must strictly therefore, restore those precious ideals no, especially among the youth,” he lamented.
Dr. Igga emphasized the importance of restoring spiritual and ethical values in political leadership and governance.
He further called on citizens to wake up and begin preparing for the December 2026 general elections.
The national prayer breakfast, which President Salva Kiir said was intended to seek God’s guidance, was attended by religious leaders, government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and civil society representatives.
