Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir chaired a timely economic cluster meeting on Monday to revive the fortunes of the economy.

The meeting which was under wraps till its resolutions were updated on the Facebook page of the Presidential Press Unit seemed to have cut across the various sectors that play a part in the country’s economic stability.

The pictures shared by the PPU revealed attendance by leaders from the Ministry of Petroleum, the Ministry of Finance and Planning, the Bank of South Sudan, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the security sector, just to mention a few.

It yielded a raft of recommendations that are to be followed to revive the economy.

According to PPU, the meeting resolved to increase non-oil revenue collections, and supply of enough food to the markets at subsidised prices.

It further added, “The leaders also resolved to supply enough fuel into the country, allocate enough money into agriculture, and auction a sizable amount of hard currency to stabilize the exchange rate.”

“They also resolved to ban the selling of dollars and other currencies on the streets and ban all illegal checkpoints throughout the country and direct the security forces to immediately implement the directives.”

The PPU further revealed that President Kiir ended it with a call for inter-institutional collaboration among these important institutions.

“The President emphasised the importance of collaboration among government institutions to stabilise prices, promote economic growth, and ensure financial stability.”

It is worth noting with appreciation that the meeting was timely, as it revealed the responsiveness of the government in dealing with the grievances of the common man.

But it should also go without saying that some of the recommendations made in the meeting had been tossed up in the previous state functions such as the National Economic Conference and the Governors Forum. It is prudent that the ministries concerned take these resolutions seriously for their ultimate implementation.
