Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir has put perpetrators of inter-c0comunial conflict on notice, adding that the government will take stern action on anyone fueling violence in the country.
The president said that anyone engaging in “senseless killings” will face the full force of the law.
“We cannot allow this senseless killing of both security personnel and civilians to continue,’ the president said in his State of the Nation Address on Saturday, July 9.
President Kiir, meanwhile, assured that perpetrators will be held liable for their actions while at the same time assured justice to the victims.
“Justice must be served on behalf of those whose lives have been lost through this pointless violence.
“The government will not metout collective punishment, but it will hold those who have killed others accountable for their crimes.”
The president reiterated that strides made in the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), were being washed down by the violence.
“The gains we have made in the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement are being eroded by inter-communal violence across the country. We have lost many lives in Western Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria and Warrap State to inter-communal violence,” the president added.
On Monday, the governor of Warrap State, Aleu Ayieny Aleu said he cut short his treatment in Egypt to address deteriorating security situation in the state after tens of soldiers were allegedly killed by armed civilians.
The governor stressed that the problem was the presence of arms in the area and called for voluntary disarmament to continue, warning that failure to comply, his government would disarm civilians by force.
