Weapons, ammunition shipped to Mayom as Gen. Biel orders attack on SPLA-IO base in Bentiu

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. JUBA — Thousands of light machine guns have been shipped to Unity State’s Mayom County by Governor Nguen Manytuil Wijang just days after former SPLA-IO commander turned SSPDF General Tito Biel Wich ordered his forces, mostly armed civilians, to attack Dingding, a SPLA-IO cantonment site just outside Bentiu town.

Last week, General Tito Biel threatened to attack the SPLA-IO base if it doesn’t handover weapons and ammunition that he claimed to have left behind when he defected from the SPLA-IO to join the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF).

A force belonging to him attacked Kaljak Payam, an area 25 kilometres outside Bentiu, resulting in the killing of several innocent civilian s before it was defeated, according to the SPLA-IO.

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, a senior member of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Unity state revealed that disagreements have emerged between Governor Nguen Manytuil and the SSPDF 4th infantry division command in Rubkona after the Governor shipped weapons to aide the onslaught against SPLA-IO.

“The government is solely responsible for this shipment of weapons and this has caused disagreements with the army command in Rubkona,” the official who requested not to be named for fears of reprisal said.

“We have information that the guns have arrived in the hand of the forces of General Tito Biel who are mostly civilians and that they are planning their attack on Rubkona County’s Dingding where SPLA-IO forces are being cantoned,” he added.
