Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State Elias Richard emphasised the critical need for peace and unity as cornerstones for development in the area.
Addressing the gathering in his first official visit to the greater eastern counties since his appointment by President Salva Kiir in May, Richard urged politicians from various political factions to drop their tribal politics and prioritise the community’s common interests.
“Without peace and unity, no development can take place in Western Equatoria State. It is essential that we work together, beyond tribal lines, to achieve the progress our state so desperately needs,” he stated.
His call for unity was met with nods of approval from the audience, reflecting the shared desire for stability and growth.
He is expected to travel to Mundri East and Mvolo counties to continue with his message of peace to the community ahead of the upcoming general elections.
“We have suffered long enough. It is time for us to come together to rebuild our communities,” a local resident commented.
The DG’s message emphasises the need for peace and the remedies to some of the challenges in Western Equatoria, and will likely resonate across the state, offering a beacon of hope for many.
