Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The governor of South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State, Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba, has reduced salaries of civil servants and constitutional post-holders by at least 30 percent, peace parties said in a statement.
The parties comprising of SPLM-IG, SSOA, OPP and FDs accused Governor Futuyo of reducing the salaries of civil servants, officials, and MPs without approval of the cabinet and parliament.
“The reduction of civil servants, executives, members of assembly and county government salaries or emolument by 30% for the month of July 2022 without consultations with council of ministers and approval of the assembly,” the group said in a letter extended to Sudans Post on Sunday.
The group claimed that the lawmakers of state assembly have not received their salaries for the last five months.
“The none payment of salaries of the defunct states of Tambura, Maridi and Amadi employees for over two years without any clear justification,” it said.
The group claimed that the governor has ordered for detention of the salaries of August in Juba.
“Detention of the salaries or emolument of August 2022 in Juba already released by national ministry of finance for the two weekends now and this has caused more suffering of the state employees.”
“The unilateral decision by Governor Alfred Futuyo Karaba to illegally arrest and investigate all the state ministries’ cashiers when they were actually paid 70% of the employees’ salaries as released by the state ministry of finance,” it said.
