The men’s national football team (Bright Stars) may play their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia at home.
South Sudan will host Gambia on Match Day 5 on June 16. The national football body said the fixture could be played at the Juba National Stadium, which is currently closed for renovation.
The stadium has been closed for renovation for the last five years.

Since then, the nation’s only anticipated stadium has yet to welcome local fans.
Yesterday, the South Sudan Football Association hinted that the stadium may open as early as the end of May 2023.
“The construction is scheduled to be finished in May, and South Sudan anticipates hosting its AFCON Qualifiers match against the Gambia at the stadium,” the SSFA stated.
Although they did not provide a specific date, the group stressed that the stadium’s official opening would probably take place near the end of the next month.
The project was funded by FIFA for $5 million.
The Juba National Stadium’s artificial turf installation received FIFA approval for the certification process last year.
Before it is opened, FIFA, the world’s football governing body, will have to pass a certification mark standards to allow teh only standard stadia in te country host international matches.
