Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani urged the political leaders to unite to effectively pull the country out of the challenges.
This comes in a crucial address marking the 14th anniversary of independence.
Speaking to The City Review Wednesday, urged both the government of national unity and opposition factions to prioritise national interests over personal and political gains.
“The ongoing economic crisis has inflicted severe hardships on our nation,” the director stated. “Civil servants have gone without pay for nine months, families are torn apart, and even our security sector faces challenges as soldiers seek alternative livelihoods.”
Pointing to the importance of the ongoing Tumaini Initiative, Yakani emphasised the need for inclusivity and called for an immediate intra-party dialogue involving all stakeholders to chart a path towards a successful political transition.
“The time for decisive action is now,” he asserted. “We cannot afford to repeat the failures of the past decade. It is imperative that our leaders show unity and resolve in paving the way for peace and stability.”
The director’s message resonates with recent statements by the president and opposition leaders under the Tumaini initiative, signaling a glimmer of hope for a consensus-driven approach.
“As citizens, we must hold our leaders accountable,” he concluded.
“Together, we can ensure that this dialogue leads to tangible progress and a brighter future for South Sudan.”
The call to action underscores the nation’s collective desire for stability amid longstanding challenges. As South Sudan approaches a critical juncture, the path forward hinges on the unity and commitment of its political leadership.
