Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The collapsed Yambio Stadium is set to be renovated after nearly two years, the Yambio Local Football Association said.

The association’s President, Joseph Ndepi, said the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) had pledged support after their meeting in Juba on Wednesday.

“We have been using the Yambio Freedom Square for our local leagues since Yambio Stadium was destroyed by heavy rainfall some few years back. Yes, it helps us a lot, but we feel that for us to host national competition; there is a need for us to renovate our stadium,” he said.

‘‘In our today’s meeting with SSFA leaders, I tabled the issue of the stadium, and indeed, they promised to take over the renovation of the stadium, and that will be next year,” Mr. Ndepi stated.

According to him, the SSFA will dispatch a team to the region to conduct an evaluation of the stadium, following which the reconstruction process would begin.

He did not specify which day or month the assessment and construction of the stadium would take place.

“We are hopeful that everything will go as planned, and if it does, Western Equatoria State and the entire country would benefit greatly,” he emphasised.

Mr. Ndepi also announced the Yambio Local South Sudan Cup finals, which will take place on Sunday this week.

He said the defending champions of Western Equatoria, Yambio Stars, will battle off with first division side Al Wehida Fc, who defeated Nile City Fc in a penalty shootout.

Yambio Star SC booked their ticket to the finals of the Yambio LFA South Sudan Cup after edging Kuzee United FC 1-0.

In a repeat of last year’s final, the two sides battle for the title of champions of the Yambio local league.

The finals will be attended by SSFA deputy president Charles Udwar and senior government officials, according to Y-LFA president Ndepi.
