Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Commissioner of Yei River County, Aggrey Cyrus Kanyikwa, declared Saturday as a cultural day for peace and coexistence among communities.
The commissioner remarked on the cultural dance organised on Saturday that brought more them 15 cultural groups together to display their cultural practices.
“I take the honour to announce this declaration to uphold Saturday of every week to be a traditional dance day in Yei River County in order to remind the future generations that our cultures are instruments of peace, not violence among ourselves” Aggrey declared
He added that various South Sudanese communities and tribes in Yei would use the day to exhibit their traditional cultural practices through songs and dance as means of peaceful coexistence among them.
The commissioner added that the main aim is to promote social cohesion and mitigate conflicts.
He added that the purpose of the Saturday festival was to strengthen peaceful coexistence and the spirit of a good neighbourhood.
He underpinned the need to maintain and preserve cultures arguing that failure to do such would spoil the peace.
“We have registered conflicts with those who invade us and enforce their own ideology upon our grandparents,” he said.
