Zanzibar lawmakers concerned over fuel shortage for police

Africa-Press – Tanzania. SOME Members of the Zanzibar House of Representatives have raised concerns over the shortage of fuel for the Police Force, a problem that hampers its ability to respond swiftly to crime-related calls.

Mr Ameir Abdalla Ameir, legislator for Mwanakwerekwe constituency led others to push the government to find ways that guarantee timely allocation of funds for the Police Force to enhance efforts in fighting crime, especially in responding to crime-related calls.

“It is true that availability of fuel was a problem since its supply was managed at the top level, but reforms have been made and money for fuel is now available at the grassroots where crime happens most,” explained Mr Ali Suleiman Ameir- Minister of State (State House).

But, the minister emphasised that strong cooperation between the Police Force and the public is the most effective way to respond or stop crime in the country and that the government security organs cannot succeed alone.

He promised that the government is working to equip the Police Force, including providing fuel in time.
