Legislators urged to continue executing duties heading into recess

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Speaker of Tanzania’s National Assembly, Dr. Tulia Ackson, has called on Members of the Parliament to fully continue executing their oversight responsibilities over the government, even as the parliament approaches a temporary recess.

Speaking in the House in Dodoma, Dr. Tulia emphasized that the mandate to hold government authorities accountable must not cease, as Tanzanian citizens still require services and development regardless of the parliamentary calendar.

“The reality is this: When the Parliament is dissolved temporarily, the government continues with its work. When an MP raises an issue, it is not on their behalf but on behalf of the people. The needs of the citizens are not dependent on the timing of Parliament,” said Dr. Tulia.

She added that lawmakers should not hesitate to table motions, ask questions, and closely monitor the implementation of development projects and other key matters within their constituencies.

The Speaker noted that the Parliament holds a unique role in ensuring government accountability, urging MPs to make full use of the remaining sessions to enhance government performance and transparency.

Overall, Dr. Tulia’s remarks underscore the importance of maintaining strong and responsible representation of the people, even during political or parliamentary transition periods.
