President Samia pays tribute to late Sheikh Muhammad Iddi

Africa-Press – Tanzania. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has conveyed her condolences following the passing of Sheikh Muhammad Iddi, who died on Thursday while receiving treatment at Mloganzila Hospital in Dar es Salaam.

Through her X (formerly Twitter) account, the Head of State described Sheikh Muhammad’s death as a significant loss to the nation, highlighting his dedication to faith and patriotism.

“I have received with great sorrow the news of the passing of Sheikh Muhammad Iddi (Abuu Iddi), the Imam of Mwinyiamani Mosque, advisor to the Mufti and Chief Sheikh of Tanzania, Dr. Abubakar Zubeir Ali Mbwana, and Coordinator of the Council of Sheikhs and Islamic Scholars of Tanzania,” she wrote.

President Samia described Sheikh Muhammad Iddi as a committed religious leader who played a vital role in fostering unity, justice, and peace in Tanzania.

“We have lost a man who deeply loved his country, a teacher of faith, a mentor to many, and a champion of justice and truth. He dedicated much of his life to promoting peace, unity, and stability through his sermons,” she stated.

Sheikh Muhammad Iddi, popularly known as Abuu Iddi, served as a chancellor to the Mufti of Tanzania on religious and social matters.

He was also the Chief Imam of Mwinyiamani Mosque and the Coordinator of the Council of Sheikhs and Islamic Scholars of Tanzania.

According to a statement from the Office of the Mufti and Chief Sheikh of Tanzania, his funeral will take place on Friday, January 31, 2025, in his hometown of Mkata Ward, Handeni District, Tanga Region.
