According to Musoma Rural Member of Parliament, Professor Sospeter Muhongo, a total of 22 water projects have been implemented over the past five years at a cost of 22,913,035,078/-.

“These projects have significantly improved water availability, now reaching over 80 per cent coverage,” Prof Muhongo revealed.

The Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) was responsible for 20 of the projects, valued at 16.16bn/-, while Musoma Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (MUWASA) implemented three projects worth 6.75bn/-..

The water projects have benefited citizens in 68 villages, covering a total of 375 hamlets.

Prof Muhongo noted that under the CCM’s upcoming 2025–2030 election manifesto, the government aims to raise access to clean and safe water to 100 per cent across Musoma.

Significant strides have been recorded in the water sector as part of the government’s commitment to implementing the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) 2020–2025 Election Manifesto.

The achievements are largely attributed to the effective execution of the 2002 National Water Policy, which was revised in 2005 to align with emerging development needs and sustainability goals.

The revised policy prioritises strategic development, innovation in appropriate technologies, and sustainable management of the country’s water resources.

Thel policy directions have served as the backbone for planning, coordination, and implementation of various water supply initiatives across the country.
