Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian government, through the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), has issued 206 licenses to media outlets and online content creators whose applications met the established criteria.
This initiative aims to broaden the scope of information dissemination in the country while adhering to broadcasting laws and regulations.
It said as of March 2025, a total of 206 licenses have already been issued.
This number was released today, April 8, 2025, during the Parliament session in Dodoma by the Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, while responding to a question from Mpendae MP, Toufiq Salim Turky.
The MP had inquired about the government’s plans to address the potential impact of the growing number of online media outlets on national ethics and culture.
In his response, Deputy Minister Mwinjuma explained that the government, through TCRA, has continued to educate the public on the safe and responsible use of social media.
Additionally, special programs have been launched to guide users on how to engage with online content in a manner that aligns with the law and national values.
The government is closely monitoring the activities of content creators, particularly those who violate Tanzanian ethical standards. Offenders are subjected to disciplinary measures, including the suspension of their content production activities and the imposition of fines in accordance with media laws and national regulations.
These measures are part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure that the growth of online media and digital content aligns with the preservation of national morals, Tanzanian cultural values, and the safety of internet users.
