Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Police Force in Tanzania has declared its full preparedness to ensure that the 2025 General Election is conducted in a peaceful and secure environment, vowing to take stern legal action against anyone who attempts to disrupt the democratic process.
This statement was made today in Parliament in Dodoma by the Minister for Home Affairs, Innocent Bashungwa, while responding to a question from Malinyi MP, Antipas Mgungusi, who inquired about the provision of vehicles to the Police Force in Malinyi District to improve service delivery to the public.
Minister Bashungwa stated that the government has begun distributing new Land Cruiser vehicles to District Criminal Investigation Officers (OCCID) across the country. This initiative aims to enhance the operational capacity of the police in maintaining law and order and protecting citizens and their property.
“I would like to take this opportunity to assure Tanzanians that we are well-prepared to ensure that this year’s General Election is held peacefully and securely. Anyone planning to incite violence will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” said Bashungwa.
He further explained that some districts that did not receive vehicles during the first phase have now been provided with new ones. He emphasized that by August 2025, additional new vehicles will be distributed to all OCCIDs nationwide.
Regarding Malinyi District, Bashungwa noted that in September 2023, the district received a new vehicle, bringing the total number of operational police vehicles in the area to two. He added that the government will continue to allocate an annual budget for the purchase of essential security equipment to strengthen public safety services.
