Samia Calls for Peace and Harmony Before Elections

Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has called for a peaceful and united approach to the General Elections to be conducted nationwide in October this year.

Speaking in the Parliament in Dodoma during her address at the closing session of the 12th Parliament, she emphasized the need for national harmony and responsible leadership.

Highlighting the role of Parliament, President Samia commended lawmakers for their support in passing key budgets and legislative reforms—particularly the recent updates to electoral and political party laws—crucial steps in preparing for credible and transparent elections.

In her speech, the President reiterated her commitment to the “4Rs” framework: Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms, and Rebuilding. She urged all stakeholders, including religious and political leaders, to avoid rhetoric that could sow division and instead promote unity and peace.

President Samia also stressed the importance of parliamentary accountability and oversight, encouraging Members of Parliament to continue holding the executive accountable and to promote transparency and good governance. This aligns with her consistent calls for integrity and responsiveness in public leadership.

In addition, the President expressed her appreciation for the contributions of MPs, acknowledging their oversight, constructive advice, and dedication to national development. She praised the Parliament for its collaboration with the executive, echoing the sentiments she shared upon receiving a parliamentary award earlier in June.
