Registrar To Meet Political Parties On Election Guidelines

Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA’S Registrar of Political Parties, Justice Francis Mutungi, has announced plans to hold a meeting with leaders of political parties participating in the upcoming October 2025 General Election. The purpose of the meeting is to provide clear guidelines to help parties avoid violations of national laws during the electoral process.

Speaking at a time when 18 political parties are in the process of collecting and returning nomination forms for positions of councillor, member of parliament, and president, Justice Mutungi stated that the meeting will take place soon before the official start of election campaigns.

He explained that once the nomination process is completed, each party will conduct its internal vetting process to select candidates who meet the party’s criteria. The names of the approved candidates will then be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for official nomination.

“I must meet with the leaders of political parties. I know they are entering an intense election period, including campaigns. It is essential they are reminded of their obligation to observe national laws to maintain the country’s peace and stability,” said Justice Mutungi.

He emphasized that the official schedule for the meeting will be announced shortly, adding that the Office of the Registrar is fully committed to ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in accordance with the principles of democracy, peace, and the rule of law.
