THE Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, has emphasized that the media sector plays a critical role in safeguarding peace, promoting equality, and educating citizens on the importance of participating in elections—especially in today’s world where misinformation, hate speech, and harassment are on the rise.
Prof. Kabudi made the remarks today, July 9, 2025, during a stakeholders’ meeting convened to discuss the role of the media in ensuring a peaceful, fair, and orderly General Elections in October, 2025.
He stressed that it is essential for media outlets to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in order to help the nation navigate this sensitive period without conflict.
He further pointed out that the general election is a significant event that affects the country’s future, and therefore requires strong collaboration among all stakeholders, including journalists and security agencies. According to him, both sectors play a key role in maintaining national unity and peace.
Prof. Kabudi also highlighted that accurate information from the media can build public understanding and reduce fear or division that may arise during the election period. He urged journalists to exercise great caution in their reporting to help preserve national cohesion.
