The announcement was made by the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, during a press briefing held in Dodoma after his meeting with Canada’s Minister of International Development, Sandeep Sarai, who is in Tanzania for a three-day working visit.

Prof. Mkenda said the funds are part of Canada’s contribution through the Teacher Education Support Project (TESP), which aims to improve the quality of teacher training colleges across the country by upgrading infrastructure, teaching and learning materials, and overall teaching environments.

He further stated that Canada is also implementing the Skills for Employment Project (ESP) worth 25m Canadian dollars (approximately 47bn/-), which focuses on improving 12 Folk Development Colleges (FDCs) located across different regions in Tanzania.

Additionally, he expressed his satisfaction with the launch of a new initiative known as the Teacher Education and Sustainable Development Project (TESDP), implemented in partnership with the Canadian government. The project will involve public teacher training colleges and technical and vocational education and training institutions (TVET) under VETA. For his part, Minister Sarai said that Tanzania and Canada have enjoyed a longstanding relationship spanning over 60 years, particularly in the education sector. He noted that the partnership would continue with the introduction of new projects aimed at advancing education in Tanzania.

He announced Canada’s support for two additional initiatives: a Nutrition Program targeting the Lindi and Mtwara regions, valued at 12m US dollars, and the BLOOM Africa Project, worth 20 million US dollars, designed to empower marginalized women and girls.

During his visit, Minister Sarai toured several projects and institutions in Dodoma, including the University of Dodoma (UDOM) and the Makole Health Centre.
