Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE OCP School Lab (OSL) program officially launched its innovative mobile soil testing initiative today at a vibrant event held at the Golden Tulip Hotel.

Under the theme ” I value the health of my soil through the proper use of fertilizers according to my crops”, the launch marks a significant step towards empowering local farmers with essential agricultural knowledge and resources.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including government representatives, agricultural experts, and local farmers eager to learn about the benefits of the OSL program.

The initiative aims to provide on-site soil analysis and tailored fertilizer recommendations, enabling farmers to optimize their yields and enhance productivity.

Hon. Shamata Shaame Khamis, the Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation, Natural Resources, and Livestock, delivered a powerful speech at the launch, emphasizing the importance of the program in transforming agricultural practices in Zanzibar.

Today, we take a monumental step towards sustainable agriculture. By equipping our farmers with the tools to understand their soil, we are not just improving their yields; we are enhancing their livelihoods and ensuring food security for our communities,” Khamis stated, adding. “Together with OCP Africa, we are committed to fostering a culture of innovation in agriculture that respects our environment and supports our economy.”

Ibrahim Mitawi, the CEO of Showtime Zanzibar, the premier event and management company, also expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “This initiative is a game-changer for our farmers. With mobile laboratories bringing soil testing directly to their fields, we are breaking barriers and making agricultural best practices accessible to everyone,” Mitawi remarked. “

The OCP School Lab program is set to collaborate with local partners, including government agricultural departments, to maximize its reach and effectiveness. By providing training on good agricultural practices alongside personalized fertilizer recommendations, the program aims to empower farmers to make informed decisions that will lead to increased productivity and income.
