Africa-Press – Tanzania. ARUSHA Regional Commissioner, Kenani Kihongosi has called on residents to remain steadfast in safeguarding peace across the Northern Zone regions.
RC Kihongosi said that the peace currently enjoyed in the country forms the foundation for the remarkable development Tanzania is currently enjoying.
He issued the appeal over the weekend during the climax of the National Farmers’ Day celebrations (Nanenane) held at Themi Njiro Grounds in Arusha for the Northern Zone.
Mr Kihongosi stressed that it is crucial for the members of the public to remain committed in protecting and preserving peace in the Northern Zone regions and throughout the nation.
He urged them to steer clear of individuals who incite unrest, noting that the peace enjoyed today is the very basis for the progress being witnessed.
“Fellow citizens, let us not allow ourselves to be influenced into engaging in acts that could jeopardise our stability. Protect your lives, protect your peace, protect your nation. If we destroy this country, we will have no other place to call home,” he said.
Highlighting development milestones, he noted that in the past four years, major projects have been executed in Arusha Region in agriculture, health, infrastructure, education, industry and commerce.
Furthermore, he encouraged citizens to actively participate in the upcoming general election by voting for ethical, diligent leaders who will foster growth in agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors.
Meanwhile, Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Mr Nurdin Babu, affirmed that President Samia has successfully implemented numerous development projects in Arusha, Manyara and Kilimanjaro regions.
The 2025 Nanenane celebrations for the Northern Zone, held at Themi Grounds in Njiro, Arusha, carried the theme: “Choose Good Leaders for Sustainable Development in Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries 2025.” Some people attending the exhibitions, including Joseph Awack from Karatu and Sifael Mbise from Meru, urged authorities to strengthen grassroots-level education through local councils.
They said this would help citizens understand the importance of agriculture and access dependable markets for their produce, noting that agriculture should be treated as a business.
