Africa-Press – Tanzania. THREE more political parties collected presidential nomination forms from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Dodoma yesterday, bringing the total to nine.

Notably, women are playing an increasingly prominent role, with one party fielding an all-female presidential aspirant.

The latest contenders to entre the race are from the African Democratic Alliance Party (ADA-TADEA), the Union for Multiparty Democracy (UMD) and the Tanzania Labour Party (TLP).

First to arrive at INEC headquarters was ADA-TADEA’s presidential aspirant Georges Busungu, accompanied by his running mate Ali Makame Issa.

Supporters waving blue, yellow, black and white flags welcomed the pair as they received their nomination form package.

Posing for a photo outside the building with the nomination parcel in hand, Mr Busungu outlined his party’s vision to usher in a “Yellow Revolution” a movement focused on technological, intellectual and economic transformation.

“This is the age of artificial intelligence and ADATADEA is ready to lead the country in that direction,” he said.

“Our main mission is to bring equality and meaningful change to Tanzanian society,” he said.

At around 11:00 am, the atmosphere was lively once again as UMD’s presidential aspirant Mwajuma Mirambo and her running mate, Mashavu Alawi Haji, arrived to collect their forms, making UMD the first party in this election cycle to field both a female presidential and vice-presidential aspirants.

The duo received their form package from INEC Chairman, Justice Jacobs Mwambegele, who also briefed them on the next steps, including collecting endorsement signatures in at least ten regions, two of which must be in Zanzibar.

“We thank God for completing this important constitutional requirement. UMD is now officially in the race, and our campaign begins today,” Ms Mirambo told reporters.

She added that UMD stands for inclusive economic policies and supports a federal system of governance (majimbo) to empower regional development.

“Our goal is to ensure no Tanzanian is left behind,” she said.

Rounding off the day at 1:10 pm, TLP’s presidential aspirant Yustas Rwamugira and running mate Amana Suleiman Mzee arrived at the INEC offices, accompanied by a convoy of party supporters dressed in black-and-yellow striped Tshirts.

After collecting their nomination forms, Mr Rwamugira outlined TLP’s priorities, including improving national security, expanding technical education, creating jobs, strengthening healthcare, and ensuring universal health insurance.

“Our youth must learn practical skills from the grassroots level. We also want every Tanzanian to have access to health insurance and every citizen must contribute to building the nation,” he said.

The issuance of nomination forms continues today, with candidates from Chama Cha Kijamii (CCK), Chama Cha Ukombozi wa Umma (CHAUMA), and the Alliance for Democratic Change (ADC) expected to collect their packages.
