Africa-Press – Tanzania. Tanzania and India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in the peaceful and safe use of nuclear technology.

The agreement was signed by Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) Director General Prof Janat Mohammed and India’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, on the sidelines of the Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership in India.

The agreement was designed to support Tanzanian youth by providing scholarships for studies in nuclear technology, access to hands-on training, and nuclear equipment that will contribute to Tanzania’s national development goals.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof Mohammed said the agreement comes at a crucial time, as Tanzania begins its journey toward acquiring nuclear power and that is a field where India already has substantial experience and progress.

Elaborating, she noted that the collaboration will accelerate Tanzania’s efforts to harness nuclear energy.

The agreement’s content also included provisions for seminars and long-term training programmes to ensure the safe application of nuclear technology and to bolster research initiatives.

For his part, Ambassador Dey said that cooperation between the two countries continues to deepen, and expressed confidence that both nations will work together to promote the safe use of nuclear technology globally.
