CCM: We’ll boost tourism, foreign exchange earnings

Africa-Press – Tanzania. CCM has pledged to significantly increase investment in the tourism and livestock sectors if it wins the General Election, aiming to maximise benefits for citizens and accelerate national development.

CCM presidential running mate, Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, made the pledge yesterday while addressing campaign rallies in Longido and later Arumeru, Arusha Region.

He said the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan has already laid strong foundations, delivering visible results and the next stage is to accelerate progress.

Dr Nchimbi noted that tourism has become a pillar of Tanzania’s economy, with President Samia’s initiatives such as the production of The Royal Tour documentary raising the country’s profile globally.

“Tourist arrivals have surged to more than 4.9 million annually since 2020. This shows our President’s determination to make tourism a driver of growth. We will continue strengthening attractions and boosting foreign exchange earnings for the benefit of every Tanzanian,” he said.

On livestock, Dr Nchimbi highlighted major projects delivered in recent years, including 16 new cattle dip tanks, 550,880 livestock vaccine doses, 874,000 litres of acaricides, nine completed water projects for herders and 11 others under construction. “This is a big step in protecting pastoralists’ livelihoods and ensuring livestock become a profitable asset,” he stressed.

The CCM running mate commended the Maasai community of Longido for preserving their culture, which he described as a unique global tourism attraction.

“I was honoured to be dressed in traditional Maasai attire. This is a clear demonstration of how tradition and development can complement each other,” he said.

Beyond tourism and livestock, Dr Nchimbi outlined CCM’s achievements and commitments in social services. In Longido, the number of primary schools has risen from 49 to 59 and secondary schools from 10 to 16, while health centres have increased from four to seven and dispensaries from 23 to 30. Electricity has reached 34 out of 112 sub-villages, with plans to extend coverage to all.

“Over the next five years, we want every Maasai child in Longido to access education. We plan to build 26 new primary schools, two secondary schools and 88 classrooms,” he pledged.

On water, more than 9bn/- has already been invested in Longido projects, with new dams planned to secure supply for both people and livestock.

Dr Nchimbi also vowed to expand road networks, increase livestock officers and implement land-use plans to balance grazing, farming and trade.

In Arumeru, he lauded President Samia’s track record in health, education, energy, mining, business and investment.

“No East African nation has made such health sector progress in the last four years. We now have more dispensaries, health centres and modern medical equipment than ever before,” he said.

He added that President Samia had created a friendlier tax environment, resulting in higher collections without coercion. “People now pay taxes with pride, knowing the money is returned through development,” he noted.

Dr Nchimbi said CCM’s vision for the next five years is to ensure world-class education, universal access to safe water, capital for youthled businesses and electricity in every village.

“CCM is asking for another mandate to lead. The pace of development ahead will exceed what we have already achieved. President Samia has the vision, drive and ability to keep transforming Tanzania,” he declared.
