Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), through the Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere Professorial Chair in Pan-African Studies, in collaboration with the Public-Private Partnership Centre (PPP Centre), is organising a high-level national symposium aimed at promoting inclusive economic development in line with Vision 2050.

The symposium that starts today at Mzumbe University Mbeya’s campus aims to bring together stakeholders from across various sectors—including the private sector, civil society, academia, development partners and the general public.

According to Prof Alexander Makulilo, Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere Professorial Chair, the event will provide a platform for deep reflection and dialogue on the country’s economic direction and development opportunities in the years ahead.

“The symposium aims to educate and empower citizens, government officials and development stakeholders to actively engage in the implementation of the vision,” Prof Makulilo, who doubles as Chairperson of the symposium, said.

The symposium will also explore how the long-term vision aligns with the upcoming national development plan, taking into account lessons learned from the current development phase.

Key themes to be addressed during the discussions include the focus and priorities of Vision 2050, building an inclusive economy based on recent successes and existing challenges, strengthening the role of public-private partnerships in national development and harnessing private sector experience as a foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth.

PPPC Director of Project, Agustino Saibul, said that the symposium will offer a valuable platform to raise public awareness about ongoing and upcoming investments, financiers involved in PPP projects and government authorities responsible for project preparation.

“The event will also provide an opportunity for the private sector to demonstrate how their participation in PPPs can drive inclusive economic growth,” he said.
