Police Arrests Five for Illegal Bridge Materials

Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Lindi Regional Police Force is holding five individuals suspected of illegally possessing 511 pieces of scaffolds used in bridge construction, along with a truck tire rim all found to be illegally possessed.

The incident was confirmed by the Lindi Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police John Imori, who stated that the suspects were apprehended on the morning of September 16, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., following a tip-off from good citizens who cooperated with law enforcement authorities.

According to Commander Imori, the materials were discovered in a warehouse owned by one of the suspects, already loaded and prepared for transport to Dar es Salaam. He noted that this incident is a clear example of the success that can be achieved through close collaboration between citizens and the police in the fight against crime.

The suspects have been identified as; Ibrahimu Hamisi Mkunga (54), Antony Vitus Mtisa (41), Maino Mohamed Selemani (43), Bakiri Kassim Mkunga (45), Mwinyi Mohamed Pongwa (21)

All are residents of the Njia Nne area in the same district. Commander Imori noted that the arrests were made during a special operation conducted following the early morning reports.

The Police Force stated that once the preliminary investigation procedures are completed, all suspects will be brought before the court to face the charges against them. Commander Imori also urged members of the public to continue reporting criminal activities in order to help maintain peace and security within the community.
