Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) expressed satisfaction with the national team’s performance after securing third place at the 2025 East and Central All Africa Challenge Trophy (EACAACT), which concluded on Friday at the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha, Kenya.

Despite defending their 2023 title, Tanzania finished third behind new champions Kenya, who won the trophy with 443 strokes (+17). La Réunion came second with 445 (+19), while Tanzania recorded 460 strokes (+34) after three rounds in the 54-hole tournament that featured seven nations.

Tanzania’s team included captain Neema Olomi, Vicky Elias, Shufaa Twalib and Khadija Selemani.

TLGU President Queen Siraki, who travelled to Kenya to support the team, praised the players for their effort and performance.

“The EACAACT is over, and our country finished third,” she said.

“Our player Neema (Olomi) ranked second in the individual standings, while our youngest team member, Shufaa (Twalib), finished ninth among players in East and Central Africa.”

Siraki highlighted Shufaa’s debut performance as notable.

“This was Shufaa’s first time at this level and she made us proud. Vicky also performed well, and Khadija represented us in the supporters’ tournament, winning the nearest to the pin award,” she added.

“TLGU extends thanks to the Government, Lugalo Golf Club, the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) and all players who helped make this participation possible. Well done to our ladies, and special thanks to team manager Yasmin Chali and supporter Chiku Elias for representing us.”

Siraki described the final round between Tanzania’s Olomi and Kenya’s Joyce Wanjiru as “a great game, like watching a golf movie.” Team manager Chali also commended Khadija’s commitment.

“She has been a dedicated team player on and off the course. I’m proud of her. Congratulations, Khadija!” she said.

TLGU Vice President Ayne Magombe added: “Olomi, you were strong, second in EACAACT! Shufaa, for your first time on this stage, you performed well. Vicky, you fought hard — we’re proud of you all.”

TGU Chairman, Gilman Kasiga also congratulated the team for “continuing to carry the national flag high.”

Several Tanzanian golfers, including former national captains Hawa Wanyeche and Madina Iddi, as well as the country’s only female professional golfer Angel Eaton, who coaches Shufaa, sent their congratulations to the team.
