Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania volleyball community is mourning the loss of former Tanzania Volleyball Association (TAVA) Chairman Agustino Agapa, who passed away on the night of October 23, 2025, at his home in Kange, Tanga.

Agapa, who led the association until 2017, when it became the Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF), is remembered as a leader who played a key role in shaping and promoting volleyball in Tanzania.

In a statement, TVF President Engineer Magoti Mtani expressed the federation’s sorrow, describing Agapa as a committed servant of the sport who left a lasting legacy.

“We join the family, friends, and the volleyball community in mourning this loss. Mzee Agapa’s contribution to volleyball in our country will not be forgotten,” Mtani said.

“The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be His name. May his soul rest in peace.”

The Zanzibar Volleyball Federation (ZVF) also sent condolences to the family and the national volleyball community.

In a message, ZVF official Amir Msimu encouraged the family to remain strong during this period. “We loved him, but God loved him more. May the Almighty grant him rest,” the message read.

Messages of sympathy have come from volleyball associations, officials, referees and players across the country.

Many have expressed support for the late Agapa’s family, including Vice Chairperson Lilian Agapa and referee Hope Agapa.

“So sad. May God rest his soul in peace. Our condolences to the family. May you find strength during this time. We stand with you,” former TAVA secretary general Alfred Selengia said
