Africa-Press – Tanzania. YOUNG Africans secured a 2–0 victory over Fountain Gate in the Mainland Premier League clash at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam, yesterday.
Goals from Prince Dube and Pacôme Zouzoua ensured the hosts collect all three points, lifting them to third in the table with 13 points from five matches.
The result extends their strong start to the campaign, with four wins and a draw since the league kicked off this season. For Fountain Gate, the defeat adds to a growing run of frustration.
They remain seventh with 10 points from 10 matches and have now suffered back-to-back losses, following 2–0 defeat to JKT Tanzania in the previous outing.
The match opened at a high tempo, with Yanga quickly taking control of possession and pressing aggressively whenever they had the ball. Their intention was clear: Find an early breakthrough.
Fountain Gate, however, settled into the contest with calm, absorbing the pressure and moving the ball with purpose without rushing their play.
Yanga carved out one of their first real chances when Offen Chikola fired wide after receiving a well-placed pass from Mohamed Doumbia.
Moments later, in the 23rd minute, Yanga defender, Dickson Job went into the referee’s book after a reckless challenge on Fountain Gate midfielder, Ismail Aziz.
The turning point of the first half came in the 29th minute. Fountain Gate defender, Shaaban Pandu Hassan was penalised for a deliberate handling offence after he extended his arm to block Célestin Ecua’s driven low delivery from the left flank.
With the referee in a clear position, the decision was immediate as he awarded a penalty. Prince Dube stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick with composure, putting Yanga in front.
The goal lifted Yanga’s intensity, reinforcing their high press as they maintained control of the tempo and pushed forward in pursuit of a second.
Fountain Gate responded by reorganising their defensive line, staying compact as they worked to keep the deficit manageable.
Just before halftime, Fountain Gate produced a rare moment of danger when striker Abdallah Kulandana unleashed a powerful effort, only for Yanga goalkeeper, Abuutwalib Mshery to pull off a strong save and preserve the 1–0 advantage at the break.
Yanga looked even stronger after the break, benefitting from a series of tactical adjustments and five substitutions that injected fresh energy into the side.
Chikola, Maxi Nzengeli, Ecua, Mohamed Doumbia and Israel Mwenda were withdrawn, with Lassine Kouma, Pacôme Zouzoua, Moussa Conté, Mohamed Hussein and Kibwana Shomari coming on to reinforce key areas across the pitch. Fountain Gate were not passive, pushing forward in search of an equaliser.
Their best moment came on a swift counter-attack, with Elie Mokono racing through on goal, only for goalkeeper Mshery to read the danger and intervene early with a crucial clearance. In the 80th minute, Yanga doubled their lead.
Zouzoua finished off a sharp one-two combination with Dube, who provided the final pass for him to slot home and seal the victory.
