Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE TANZANIA Revenue Authority (TRA) has emerged as the overall winner in the 2024 Best Presented Financial Statements Awards after taking first place in the Government Agency category at the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).

The awards were presented by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) in Dar es Salaam.

The achievement places TRA at the forefront of public institutions, demonstrating strong financial discipline, adherence to international reporting standards, and transparent management of government resources.

This year’s competition attracted 86 public and private organisations submitting financial statements for the 2024 reporting year.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Commissioner General, TRA Deputy Commissioner General Mcha Hassan said the recognition validates the authority’s commitment to accountability and operational integrity.

“We have taken first place in the Government Agency category and emerged overall winners for the public sector,” he said.

He added that “This award is significant because it confirms that our performance meets global standards and strengthens taxpayer confidence that every shilling collected reaches the government’s consolidated fund and is used to support essential services in health, education, and infrastructure.”

Hassan added that the recognition reflects the skill and dedication of TRA staff.

“It shows the competence of our workforce and the innovation behind our service delivery. These awards will motivate staff to continue working with commitment and efficiency,” he said.

Closing the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Finance Laurent Deogratius Luswetula said the awards reinforce national governance and accountability systems.

“High-quality financial reporting is essential for taxpayers, investors, and development partners who rely on accurate information to make informed decisions,” he said.

He applauded the 2025 Accountants Annual Conference for addressing the future of the profession, noting that accountants play a pivotal role in managing public resources.

“Your work is fundamental to Tanzania’s economic stability and long-term sustainability,” he added.

NBAA Director General CPA Pius Aloysius Maneno said this year’s competition implemented stringent assessment criteria.

“Every submission underwent a rigorous two-stage evaluation aligned with international reporting standards, clean audit requirements, and governance expectations,” he said.

He emphasised that the use of a publicly accessible checklist ensured fairness and transparency throughout the process.

“This approach strengthens confidence in Tanzania’s financial reporting ecosystem and promotes a culture of integrity,” he added.

The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) emerged as the runner-up in the Government Agency category.
