Africa-Press – Tanzania. AZAM FC Head Coach Florent Ibenge has voiced disappointment after his side squandered two clear scoring chances in the first half of their barren draw against Singida Black Stars in a tense Premier League encounter on Wednesday night.
The Chamazi-based outfit were forced to settle for a frustrating stalemate at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, despite dominating the early stages and capitalising on several defensive lapses from the visitors.
Azam carved out two golden opportunities before the break, both stemming from poor defensive communication in the Singida BS backline.
However, forwards Iddi Selemani and Jephte Kitambala failed to convert, leaving home supporters visibly frustrated. Speaking after the match, Coach Ibenge emphasised that wastefulness in front of goal makes it difficult to secure victories in top-flight football.
“We created many scoring chances, including two big ones in the first half that were enough to win the game, but we missed them. We are going back to prepare and become more clinical,” said the Congolese tactician.
He further stressed that his attacking line must put in extra work to improve composure and decisionmaking in the final third, the area he believes cost the team valuable points.
On the opposing bench, Singida BS Head Coach Miguel Gamondi admitted his side escaped with a stroke of luck after a shaky first-half display filled with dangerous errors.
“It was just luck that we did not lose this match. We did not play well in the first half and made big mistakes that could have punished us,” Gamondi said.
“For an away match and the way we played, especially in the first half, I am satisfied with the result.” The draw leaves both sides with plenty to address as the league campaign intensifies.
Azam FC, popularly known as the Ice Cream Makers, now turn their attention to a tough upcoming fixture against Simba SC at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, where they’ll be under pressure to refine their attacking sharpness.
Singida BS, meanwhile, head back home to prepare for next challenge against TRA United at the KMC Stadium in Mwenge, Dar es Salaam.
Both teams will be eager to polish their finishing as they aim to climb the Tanzania Premier League standings.
