Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Tea Board has met with the Brown Plantation Company to discuss measures to strengthen and increase productivity in the country’s tea sector.
The meeting met two major leaders of the companies, the Director General of the Tanzania Tea Board, Beatrice Banzi and Director of Brown Plantation Company, Neill Goonetilleke.
During the discussions, Brown Plantation presented a strategic plan to expand the varieties of tea products produced, an initiative intended to reduce dependence on black tea alone.
Additionally, Mr Goonetilleke said that through the strategy, the company aims to produce high-value teas to increase the price of Tanzanian tea and enhance its competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
He also presented a report on the progress of their expanding factories along with the increase in production.
“The expansion of these factories will boost tea-processing capacity and bring about greater efficiency in production.,” he said.
The Director General of the Tanzania Tea Board, Beatrice Banzi noted that through collaboration and ongoing investments, the goal is to increase the value of Tanzanian tea and ensure that farmers benefit directly.
She further said that, among many other things, their target is to reduce dependence on a single product and expand the production of various tea types.
“We believe this will bring significant transformation to the sector,” she stated.
